As club fitters, we work with golfers of all skill levels and handicaps. Despite their differences, many golfers face similar challenges.
We've identified the most common ones, and fixing these can set you on the path to improving your golf game!
1. LENGTH MATTERS
Most of the equipment available "off the shelf" is built to be longer. Why? Because companies want to advertise the fact that their clubs do go longer. But! playing longer clubs makes it difficult to rotate through. Most golfers then swing "Out to In" & end up hitting the heel of the club. This not only reduces ball speed but also affects launch, height & control over the golf ball. You would get far more distance by hitting the centre of the face rather than playing longer clubs.

2. LOFT IS YOUR FRIEND
...this is especially true for your fairway woods. Far too many golfers, rely on their 3W to hit these "towering" shots into the greens & make the ball stop. This in fact is almost impossible to execute at the swing speeds recreational golfers have. Using higher lofted fairway woods is the best possible way to get not just height but more distance. Improved height & trajectory helps your distance too. That's why many times your 5W will tend to go further than your 3W.
3. GET YOUR GAPPING RIGHT
Most golfers are somewhat aware of how far they hit their irons. They are definitely not aware of the yardage gapping between each of their irons. This factor is really crucial; whether you are playing from the fairway, rough or the bunker. If you are not able to predict how far you are able to carry, it's going to be difficult to manage your game. Using a TrackMan, getting fit & modifying the loft/lies on your irons will help.
4. IT'S ALL ABOUT THE GRIND
Many players rely on a single "all-in-one" wedge for their short game. Golfers are not able to effectively use the grinds on their wedges. Nowadays, every company is producing wedge options with multiple grinds. Getting fit for your wedges is not just about new equipment but the fitter should be able to explain how to use a specific grind for the conditions you find at your golf course. Understanding the science behind wedge design may just help you chip the ball better!
5. UNTORQUE YOURSELF?
Used by L.A.B Golf, this phrase summarises the revolution well. This zero-torque revolution has been rumbling up for a long long time. Initially what started with low torque shafts to now putter designs which completely eliminate all torque through the putter stroke. The concept is simple. Zero torque means zero compensation, better club face control & overall improvement. Putting has become way too complicated & maybe a revolution is what the game really needed. A revolution to simplify things.
