Let's talk about the 2020 PGA Champion, Colin Morikawa. A Taylormade staffer, Morikawa is known for his ball-striking & laser accurate irons. The 23 year old now has more wins than missed cuts- 29 starts, 3 wins & just 2 missed cuts!
What do the Trackman numbers mean?
Morikawa is not known on tour as a "bomber". But with club head speed close to the tour average (110mph), he has found the perfect balance between physicality & technology. The fitters at Taylormade Golf have done a great job. They have optimized launch conditions for long drives without sacrificing accuracy. By varying angle of attack & maintaining spin loft (Difference between AoA & dynamic loft), he can hit it above 300 yards at will. Getting fitted is key, not just for the "gainz", but also to understand what you can or cannot do. We use the same methodology, equipment & launch monitors when we fit players at our indoor studio.
Here's, Colin Morikawa practicing using the Trackman 'on-course' practice feature while simulating wind & elevation conditions.
